Team Canada beats Czechia and China to remain undefeated at World Cup softball in South Surrey

The Canadian Women's National Team won two convincing games Thursday at Softball City in South Surrey, staying undefeated at 5-0 in round-robin play ahead of Friday's final group match.

Team Canada continued its dominant run at the 2026 Canada Cup International Softball Championship in South Surrey on Thursday, July 9, defeating Czechia 10-0 in a shutout and China 16-4, bringing their tournament record to an undefeated 5-0 in round-robin play.

In the opening game at Softball City, Victoria firefighter Emma Entzminger drove in four runs on two doubles as Canada blanked Czechia U22. Surrey's Kianna Jones added a solo home run, and Paige Simpson delivered a two-run triple. Pitcher Dawn Bodrug earned the win, allowing just one hit while striking out five over three scoreless innings, with White Rock/South Surrey native Sara Groenewegen closing out the shutout in relief. Natalie Wideman led Canada with three hits as the team collected 12 hits and played a flawless game defensively.

In the second game against China, Canada's bats exploded in the third inning, scoring 15 runs to secure a 16-4 victory. Erika Polidori launched two home runs and drove in six runs, while Logan Forman added a grand slam during the inning. Cloverdale's Grace Messmer, Kianna Jones, and CC Wong also went deep as Canada hit six home runs overall. Delta's Kelsey Harshman, Forman, Maple Ridge's Larissa Franklin, and several others recorded two-hit performances.

Morgan Rackel earned the win on the mound as Canada completed another dominant all-around performance.

Team Canada wraps up round-robin play Friday, July 10 against the Chinese Taipei Development Team at 6 p.m. before advancing to the playoff round.
