A 20-year-old man is in critical condition after being stabbed multiple times near downtown Vancouver's Granville Street pedestrian zone early Saturday morning.

Vancouver Police responded to the scene at 3:15 a.m. at Seymour Street and Nelson Street. The victim was transported to hospital with critical injuries.

Constable Darren Wong said police have not yet identified any suspects. "That is still under investigation at this point," he said.

Investigators do not believe the stabbing is connected to FIFA festivities on nearby Granville Street. "Given the time, 3:15 in the morning, it is fairly early in the morning," Wong said. "So it's too hard to say if it's connected to FIFA or not."

VPD is asking anyone with information to contact police.
