Penticton-Summerland MLA Amelia Boultbee has crossed the floor to join the B.C. NDP, securing the party's solid majority in the legislature with 48 of 93 seats. The move means the NDP no longer needs Speaker Raj Chouhan to break tied votes.
Boultbee's departure from the Conservative caucus comes less than two months after the party stripped her of membership following her vote to send a B.C. NDP bill on Freedom of Information requests to committee for review and debate. She had exited the Conservative caucus in October 2025 following the ousting of MLA Elenore Sturko, citing the "unravelling" of former party leader John Rustad.
Boultbee was elected as a B.C. Conservative in 2024, narrowly defeating NDP candidate Tina Lee by 317 votes. The announcement comes on the same day the B.C. Conservative Caucus is wrapping up its first official meeting under new party Leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay in her riding.
