FIFA branding is coming down at BC Place, with crews wasting no time after Switzerland and Colombia played the last match Vancouver hosted on July 8 in the Round of 16.
Work began the day after that final match, with large fences surrounding the 43-year-old stadium as crews remove signage from the structure and its surrounding pillars. PavCo, the venue operator, will officially take control of BC Place next week.
While many of the BC Place upgrades during the World Cup are permanent—including a new retail store, elevators, and hospitality spaces—the grass pitch that hosted matches will not stay. A brand new artificial turf field will soon be laid down.
The first post-FIFA event scheduled for BC Place is a July 25 CFL game between the BC Lions and Toronto Argonauts. The Lions had to play their first five games away from Vancouver, including two "home" games in Kelowna, while the Vancouver Whitecaps haven't played at BC Place since April 25 and don't return until August 1 against LAFC.
