The Vancouver Canucks will face their most late-night schedule ever this season, with 14 games kicking off at 8 p.m. PT — a first in the franchise's modern era.
The shift stems from B.C.'s decision in March to abandon daylight saving time. Since the province no longer springs forward, Hockey Night in Canada games that air across the country will start at a uniform 8 p.m. MT, which translates to 8 p.m. PT on the West Coast. The full 84-game slate released Thursday also marks another milestone: the season begins in September for the first time in franchise history.
Ten of the 14 late starts will happen at Rogers Arena, with four away games rounding out the list. The good news: 12 of the 14 games fall on Saturday nights, meaning most fans won't need to wake up for work the next morning. The most prominent contest arrives Sunday, October 25, when Quinn Hughes returns to Rogers Arena as a member of the Minnesota Wild — Hughes and the Wild will face off at the regular 7 p.m. start.
Other notable returnees include Marcus Pettersson (New York Rangers, November 14 at 7 p.m.), Tyler Myers (Dallas Stars, December 5 at 8 p.m.), and Kiefer Sherwood (San Jose Sharks, December 19 at 8 p.m.). Adam Foote makes his homecoming on December 21 against Utah Mammoth at 7 p.m., while Conor Garland faces Columbus Blue Jackets on January 16 at 8 p.m.
