More than 700 Metro Vancouver outside workers launched a full-scale strike Monday, escalating pressure on the regional district to return to bargaining.
The Greater Vancouver Regional District Employees' Union called off rotating job actions and moved to complete work stoppages, with the exception of essential-service staff. The union represents workers covering water and wastewater treatment, air quality tracking, natural resources, parks, infrastructure, and ecological reserves across the region.
The same day the strike began, Metro Vancouver confirmed the union has agreed to mediation with the Labour Relations Board, calling it "a practical step to help both parties make meaningful progress in reaching an agreement."
The union had conducted weeks of rotating job action before moving to full strike action Monday, June 15.
