The remains of British Columbia actor Stewart McLean have been found in Lions Bay, north of Vancouver, ending a search that began after he was reported missing Monday.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team confirmed the discovery Friday and said investigators are working with the BC Coroners Service to understand the circumstances of his death. Police believe it was an isolated incident.

McLean, 45, last was seen May 15. He appeared in television series including "Virgin River" and "Murder in a Small Town." After Squamish RCMP found evidence suggesting he may have been killed, homicide investigators took over the missing-persons case earlier this week.

The actor's death marks a somber end to hopes held by family and colleagues during the search. The homicide team's early assessment that the incident appears isolated offers some clarity to a community shaken by the discovery.
