B.C. NDP Leader David Eby appealed to Green voters to reconsider their ballots as the October 24 snap election approaches, arguing their support could split the vote and elect a Conservative government instead.
Speaking in Campbell River on Sunday, Eby said he respects Green Leader Emily Lowan but stated flatly that "Emily Lowan will not be premier next week." He framed the election as a choice about the province's future rather than disagreements between NDP and Green platforms, saying the two parties share common ground on many issues.
"So, I'm asking Green voters to think very carefully about the kind of province that we all want, because when we all work together as voters who share that vision, we win," Eby said.
He pointed to the last election, when Green votes made the difference between Conservative and NDP wins in 11 ridings, including North Island. "The damage that a Conservative government would do would last for generations, and some of it would be impossible to undo," Eby added.
Eby acknowledged frustration over the election timing and said neither the NDP nor he have been perfect, but framed the vote as pivotal rather than routine. On the question of trailing in polls, he said the only poll that matters is election day itself.
The Green Party has not responded to Eby's appeal. No polling data was cited in support of Eby's claim about the NDP's standing.
