Riverview Bridge Closure Reshapes Weekend Travel

The newly opened stal̕əw̓asəm Bridge will shut northbound lanes all weekend for path work, forcing drivers to alternate routes.

If you're heading across the new stal̕əw̓asəm Bridge this weekend, plan for detours. The northbound lanes will be completely closed from Friday at 9 p.m. through Monday morning at 5 a.m. while crews install a key section of the multi-use path overpass structure.

The closure marks the latest in a series of weekend disruptions since the bridge opened. Southbound traffic will continue to flow, but anyone heading north from New Westminster is being directed toward the Port Mann or Alex Fraser bridges instead. Transit riders, particularly those on the northbound N19 NightBus, will be rerouted over the Queensborough and Alex Fraser bridges.

Fraser Crossing Constructors says all traffic pattern changes will be well-signed with personnel on site to assist drivers, and emergency access will remain maintained. Still, residents in the area should brace for longer commute times and construction noise as work continues around the clock through the weekend.

This is the second significant closure in as many months. Between late April and early May, the entire bridge shut down for a full weekend to complete paving work on the deck. Looking ahead, there's another full closure scheduled for May 29 through June 1 to finish installing the multi-use path overpass structure. If you depend on that crossing regularly, these next few weeks will test your flexibility.
