Surrey Memorial Hospital ranks lowest among BC hospitals on Google reviews, with a 2.19-star rating based on 2,052 reviews, according to research by SEO Backlinks released Wednesday.
The study, conducted on October 5, 2026, examined 177 hospitals and health centres with emergency departments and at least 200 Google reviews across Canada — a total of 135,074 reviews. Surrey Memorial ranked third-worst nationally, with only Brampton Civic Hospital in Ontario and Lakeridge Health Ajax Pickering Hospital, also in Ontario, rating lower. In BC, the next-lowest-rated hospitals were Abbotsford Regional at 2.48 stars, Burnaby Hospital at 2.57 stars, and Langley Memorial at 2.63 stars. For comparison, Vancouver General Hospital rated 3.37 stars, St. Paul's Hospital 3.74 stars, and Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria 3.31 stars.
The research measured each hospital as a whole, not emergency departments alone, and excluded dedicated children's hospitals, specialist institutes, and urgent care centres. Surrey Memorial Hospital is located on King George Boulevard in Surrey.
