Metro Vancouver's transit system recorded its highest ridership in more than six years on June 24, driven by fans traveling to FIFA World Cup events, matches, and celebrations throughout the region.
TransLink saw its biggest increases on SkyTrain and SeaBus as customers traveled to BC Place, the FIFA Fan Festival, downtown Vancouver, Lonsdale Quay, and other destinations. "These ridership numbers show that customers are choosing transit as the easiest way to get to FIFA World Cup events," a TransLink statement said. "Our teams have been preparing for this moment for months, and we're proud to be moving hundreds of thousands of people safely and efficiently."
The June 24 milestone came after an even larger record on June 18, when TransLink processed over 1.36 million boardings during Canada's match against Qatar — the busiest day in the system's history since early 2020. Earlier in the tournament, the June 13 opener between Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina became TransLink's busiest Saturday event since the 2010 Winter Olympics.
