Vancouver had one of its 10 driest Octobers in the last 130 years, according to Environment Canada meteorologist Steve Boily. Vancouver International Airport recorded 38.8 mm of rain for the month. The normal October total there is 123.9 mm, so the month came in just above 30 per cent of average.

"We were just above 30 per cent of the average we get in Vancouver. So drier, much drier," Boily said.

Rainfall had reached only 14.3 mm by the two-thirds mark of the month. October was drier than both August and September, and the end of the month brought some showers but no deluge. The month's average temperature was 10.6 C, against a 30-year normal of 10.3 C. On Oct. 16 the high reached 21.7 C, well above the normal high of about 14 C, though short of the 23.3 C record set on that date in 1929.

November is usually Vancouver's wettest month, averaging around 245 mm. Environment Canada's forecast for the first week of November is close to normal precipitation, with the second week a little above average, and the month may run warmer than normal, although the size of that warming is unclear. Boily said Vancouver may also feel effects of a "super El Niño" pattern later in the year, though no timing was given.

HighOnCity's own background notes that Vancouver's typical October averages around 123.9 mm of rain.
