Tarrin McDonough of the Styrogirls—the Vancouver duo known for curating a vast collection of foam creations featuring Taylor Swift, Gimli, and Deadpool—is on a personal challenge to walk one million steps in August, with proceeds going to BC Cancer.
McDonough is averaging roughly 32,000 steps per day with a goal of raising $5,000. Already more than halfway through the challenge, she has raised over $3,000. The target came after a realization that struck her at a gathering: of eight women in the room, six were cancer survivors.
"Everyone is affected by cancer," she said.
On August 31, the Styrogirls plan one final walk in a foam figure they painted as Moira, paying homage to Catherine O'Hara, who died from cancer complications. The tribute serves as a reminder of cancer's impact on families across the city—and a way to turn each step into something meaningful.
Donations to Tarrin's walk can be made through BC Cancer's fundraising platform. Supporters can follow the Styrogirls on Facebook and Instagram for updates on the challenge and the final walk.
