Suspicious fire breaks out in cockloft at West Broadway apartment building early Sunday

Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services responded to a suspicious fire in the cockloft of a four-unit apartment building at 566 West Broadway early Sunday morning.
Crew arrived just after 12:30 a.m. to heavy smoke and upgraded the incident to a working fire. The building houses two businesses on the ground floor and four apartments on the second floor, accessible from the rear.
Residents from two apartments had already evacuated before firefighters arrived. The other two residents were not home at the time. Both sprinkler systems and fire alarms were activated before crews arrived on site.
Firefighters worked through the night to extinguish the blaze. The four apartments have been boarded up to preserve the scene for investigators. There were no injuries to residents or firefighters. The Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services has deemed the fire suspicious and the investigation is ongoing.
