Craft Beer Market, the Calgary restaurant chain that launched on 10th Avenue S.W. in 2011, has opened its newest local location at South Trail Crossing in Shepard Flats, continuing a national expansion that now spans eight cities including Edmonton, British Columbia, Ontario and Texas.
The new suburban space signals a shift in the restaurant's identity. The sleek contemporary design reads more like a modern Earls or Joey than a traditional pub — a reflection of founder PJ L'Heureux's evolution as the brand matured and the craft-beer scene caught up to his original concept.
Chef Joshua Dyer, formerly of the Dorian Hotel, took over as director of brand innovation for Craft and its sister restaurant Central late last year. In May, Dyer launched "Good food, good mood," a menu program designed to restore food as a centerpiece alongside the beer list.
The new menu blends refined small plates with approachable classics. Dyer's fine-dining background is evident in dishes like whipped burrata caprese with candied pistachios and maple-glazed short rib. But the menu also honours Craft's casual roots with crowd-pleasing burgers, pizza and Korean sticky ribs that Dyer describes as "absolutely crave-worthy."
Craft Beer Market operates 10 locations across eight cities. The Shepard Flats restaurant joins downtown Calgary and Southcentre locations. For info: craftbeermarket.com, 5155 130th Ave. S.E.
