The Grey Eagle Resort and Casino's Buffet Restaurant is staying put—at least for now.
For months, locals worried the beloved spot would disappear when the Grey Eagle announced a major renovation project spanning 2026 into 2027. In May, the resort said the buffet would close this summer to make way for a new dining experience, disappointing the regulars who'd made seafood night on Thursdays and the weekend prime rib buffet a tradition.
Then this week, Grey Eagle confirmed the plan had changed. In a Facebook post on Wednesday, July 22, the resort announced: "The Grey Eagle Buffet is staying open through December 31, 2026."
The restaurant will temporarily close in January 2027 when it undergoes its own renovation. It will reopen once the work is finished.
The reprieve gives regulars several more months to enjoy the rotating specials that have made the place a Calgary staple. The resort is also inviting suggestions for how to celebrate the buffet's future—ideas will be collected and placed in a time capsule.
