Mount Pleasant Vintage opened in Calgary's Beltline this summer, bringing Vancouver owner Cam Bogue's hybrid concept of a cocktail bar, dance space and vintage furniture store to 1207 1st Street S.W. in the old Home & Away building.
Bogue launched the Vancouver location in 2022 after seeing how nightlife was shifting — a space that felt neither fully club nor traditional cocktail bar, but something between. "It's an opportunity to have a place you can still go party. The lights are on. We have food to the very end. You have corners you can come hide in. It's a place where you can still mingle, dance, have fun," he said.
The Vancouver outpost most recently placed at number 91 on the extended North America's 50 Best Bars list. PJ L'Heureux, founder of Craft Beer Market, approached Bogue about bringing the concept to Calgary, and the transformation of the 1st Street space was completed in around 100 days.
The design leans into a fun, eclectic '70s vibe with furniture sourced from Calgary estate sales, road trips to Winnipeg, and even pieces from the set of the TV show Riverdale — all of it for sale. The space spans two indoor levels plus a sunken front patio (operational year-round with garage doors) and a rooftop patio with step-style seating. Bogue emphasizes approachable craft cocktails made at high volume without the pretension. "We just want to show that you can do great cocktails without aprons or secret handshakes or curled mustaches," he said.
