Village Brewery, in partnership with Molson, has released Calgary Beer—a craft lager that pays homage to the city's brewing heritage.

Alberta's first brewery, Calgary Brewing and Malting Co., was established in 1892 by A.E. Cross, one of the Big Four financiers of the Calgary Stampede. The brewery produced beer until its 1994 closure, leaving a legacy tied to Inglewood's identity—the area where the original brewery stood became known as Brewery Flats.

Village's Calgary Beer reworks the original recipe for Calgary Brewing's flagship Calgary Export Lager, reimagining the iconic buffalo logo with a bull. Made with Alberta-grown barley and North American hops, it's a clean, crisp brew.

"There's so much rich history to the brand. So many people are fans and advocates of it, and to be able to add to that is important to us," says Jackson Stuart, marketing director at Village Brewery.

Village first revived the recipe in 2022 as an ale for a limited release. This latest version as a lager comes as close as possible to the original Calgary Export Lager—a fitting summer pour for the city.
