Native Tongues Taqueria, one of Calgary's favourite Mexican restaurants, is opening a new Bridgeland location this summer.

Since launching its first location in Victoria Park in 2015, Native Tongues has become a firm favourite in the city's restaurant scene. The restaurant takes inspiration from Mexico City's food and culture, offering tacos, quesadillas and an extensive selection of tequila and mezcal—one of the city's most impressive collections of the smoky agave spirit.

The Bridgeland expansion marks the restaurant's fourth location, following openings in Britannia and the University District. The new space will bring the same authentic approach to the neighbourhood, though no official opening date has been announced yet.

The restaurant's commitment to mezcal sets it apart. According to the editorial profile, Native Tongues offers one of the largest mezcal selections in Canada. During a visit to the bar, the wood fire melts the ice in glasses while fans spin overhead. The rustic painted walls feature random groupings of framed religious images and a taxidermied deer skull—the aesthetic is distinctly cantina. Bar manager Samantha Casuga and owner Cody Willis travelled to villages around Oaxaca, Mexico to visit palenques, small mezcal production houses using traditional methods, and brought back that philosophy to Calgary.
