Two of professional golf's greatest champions will headline the Rogers Charity Classic in Calgary next month, bringing star power and entertainment to the PGA TOUR Champions event.
Bernhard Langer, 68, continues to redefine longevity in professional golf. The World Golf Hall of Famer has amassed a record 47 PGA TOUR Champions victories, including an unprecedented 14 wins after his 60th birthday — the only player in the circuit's history to win after age 64, which he has done five times. He remains the only golfer to capture all five senior major championships. His remarkable career includes more than 130 professional victories worldwide, highlighted by Masters titles in 1985 and '93, 12 senior major championships and 10 Ryder Cup appearances for Europe.
"Statistically, they say that guys win the most tournaments from age 50 to 55 on the PGA TOUR Champions, and then they kind of drop off," Langer said. "I'm trying to continue to prove them wrong. It will be great to go back to Calgary. It's our only stop in Canada during the year, and they've done a phenomenal job over the years. Everybody loves the golf course, and the crowds are incredibly enthusiastic."
Meanwhile, few players have captured the imagination of golf fans quite like Miguel Angel Jiménez, 62, known around the world as 'The Most Interesting Man in Golf.' The colourful Spaniard is as entertaining away from the first tee as he is on it, sporting his trademark ponytail and often seen with a Cuban cigar in hand. The four-time Ryder Cup representative for Europe owns 17 PGA TOUR Champions victories and is hunting for his first Rogers Charity Classic title — a white Stetson.
"The goal is always to compete to win," Jiménez said. "I'm still playing well. I'm still enjoying myself on the golf course. I still feel competitive, and I still feel I can win, so I'm having a lot of fun."
The event runs August 17–23 at a tournament known for bringing golf's greatest champions to Calgary while raising an incredible amount of money for local charities.
