The chuckwagon world rolls into High River this week for four days of high-speed action. The annual Battle of the Foothills runs July 23–26 at the High River Ag Grounds, following the Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby.
The field includes reigning world champion Chanse Vigen, season points leader Obrey Motowylo, and local favourites Jason Glass (Blackie driver Jordie Fike and Foothills County's Dayton Sutherland. Glass finished second at the Stampede and sits fifth in the world standings. Fike is 17th with Sutherland at 23rd. Vigen is the two-time defending Battle of the Foothills champion and has won three of the past four titles in High River.
The July 23–25 competition features nine heats each, with four wagons per heat, running at 7 p.m. nightly. The July 26 finale kicks off at 4 p.m. The weekend includes a Saturday night cabaret and a pancake breakfast at Cowboy Church on Sunday morning at 10 a.m. Tickets are available through the High River Ag Society website.
