Lemonade Day in Okotoks on June 13 saw over 35 stands pop up across all neighbourhoods of the town, with young entrepreneurs running the show.
The event, an initiative of the Okotoks Optimist Club, gave kids full control of their stands — from appearance and recipes to pricing and customer service. They got to keep all profits from their sales.
The Optimist Club helped participants develop business plans for the day. Residents throughout Okotoks supported the youngsters by buying lemonade throughout the event.
When asked what they planned to do with their earnings, most young entrepreneurs said they would give the money to a local charity, with saving money and buying a pet as the next most common answers. The initiative gave kids hands-on experience running a small business while raising funds for causes they care about.
