Airdrie is holding its annual Pollinator Week from June 22 to 28 to raise awareness about supporting local pollinators in the community.

An event on June 28 at the Inspire building will feature a screening of "Bee Movie," pollinator discovery stations, build-your-own bee bath workshops, and educational activities with close-up flower exploration.

The City encourages residents to plant pollinator-friendly native species, including prairie goldenrod, prairie crocus, lobelia, helianthus annuus, blue beardstongue, brown-eyed susan, bee balm, and saskatoon. Xeriscaping—landscaping that reduces or eliminates the need for irrigation by using drought-tolerant plants—is another way residents can make a difference.

"By choosing native and water-wise plants, you support ecosystem health, strengthen local food systems and create a thriving, pollinator friendly garden," the City said in a statement.

The initiative builds on efforts made in 2023 when Airdrie created a garden in East Lake Park to support sustainable environmental practices.
