Airdrie Horticultural marks 25 years with free Garden Show on Saturday, August 8

The Airdrie Horticultural Society is celebrating 25 years in the community with a free Garden Show on Saturday, August 8, at the Nose Creek Valley Museum at 1701 Main Street South. The event runs from noon to 6 p.m. and is open to anyone — gardeners and curious neighbours alike.

The Garden Show features produce and flowers grown by society members, displayed under three judged categories: fruits, flowers, and vegetables. But the event also includes fun competitive categories that draw beyond serious growers. There's a heaviest vegetable competition and a veggie carving competition, among others. After judging concludes, the public can view all the entries.

Deanna Hunter, a society member and part of the planning committee, said the event offers something for everyone. "There's a real interest in gardening happening," Hunter explained. "Our membership has really blossomed over the last few years. I think the public can come and see what you could grow in this area, and what the possibilities are. There'll be floral bouquets and those kinds of things. So I think it's just of general interest … And we also have a couple of fun categories in the garden show." For gardeners, the show is a chance to display what they've grown. For the public, it's an educational opportunity to learn what thrives in the local climate.
