Pumphouse Park, a popular destination along the Bow River beside the historic Pumphouse Theatre in southwest Calgary, reopens Thursday following a $3.6 million revitalization.

The upgrades addressed movement and accessibility issues. The Bow River pathway through the park has been widened to reduce congestion between cyclists and pedestrians. New amenities include permanent fire pits with movable furniture, picnic tables, barbecues, benches, and flexible open space for both events and everyday use.

The park now features 15 new asphalt parking spaces plus additional gravel stalls, improved pathway connections, and new trees and plants. The revitalization took nearly five years from first community engagement in summer 2021 through construction that began in fall 2024.

The City of Calgary is marking the reopening on Thursday, June 25, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a short ceremony, live performances, poetry from Calgary's newest Poet Laureate, food trucks, and family games. The event takes place at 2140 Pumphouse Ave. S.W.
