Pumphouse Park in Sunalta is officially open after a $3.6 million renovation that began in late 2024.

The redesigned space includes new gathering areas with seating, picnic and barbecue facilities, improved pathway systems, and water-themed artwork and signage. Three swinging benches now overlook the Bow River, supported by blue pipes that reference the park's pumphouse history.

Kyle Ripley, director of Parks and Open Spaces with the City of Calgary, said the improvements matter as Calgary grows. The space will serve walkers, cyclists, families, and visitors attending performances at nearby Pumphouse Theater.

"These spaces support physical and mental well-being and help strengthen the social fabric of our communities," Ripley said.

Ward 8 Councillor Nathaniel Schmidt called the park an oasis in the busy downtown edge, with Crowchild Trail nearby. "The more people that use a space, the healthier that community becomes," he said.
