After four years and $6 million in renovations, Sikome Lake is open for the season with major upgrades that welcome back Calgary families to one of the city's favourite summer escapes.

The artificial lake, located inside Fish Creek Provincial Park, welcomes roughly 100,000 visitors every summer. It's fed by freshwater wells and treated on site, rather than using water from the Bow River. The renovations include new entry booths, renovated change rooms, an improved concession area, and a brand-new water safety centre with first aid facilities and space for lifesaving equipment.

Visitors are already noticing the improvements. "I have a two-year-old baby; it was very nice, she likes it. And it's very clean — water is very clean. It has a very nice scent," Olga said. Another visitor, Kyla, noted the broader impact: "I've been coming here for a bit, and you can see with a lot of families coming here that it seems to be a pretty good investment."

While a few finishing touches will continue over the coming weeks, the beach is fully open for the season, offering cooling relief as temperatures climb.
