Dean Kyle Thomson, accused of defrauding the Okotoks Agricultural Society of more than $200,000, has retained legal counsel after going several months without representation.
Thomson, of Foothills County, was charged last year with fraud over $5,000, possession of stolen property over $5,000, theft over $5,000, and using or possessing forged documents. He allegedly defrauded the society while serving as treasurer between December 2020 and March 2024.
At a hearing July 17, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Okotoks, the court was told Thomson now has legal representation — the same lawyer who previously represented him on the charges. At a court hearing in April, Thomson told the court he no longer had a lawyer and needed time to retain one, prompting several adjournments.
An adjournment was granted Thursday for the defence to review the case. Thomson is due back in Okotoks court on July 31. None of the allegations have been tested in court.
