Okotoks agriculture treasurer faces fraud trial

Dean Kyle Thomson, accused of defrauding the Okotoks Agricultural Society of more than $200,000, made his first court appearance Friday and requested more time to retain a lawyer.

Thomson, of Foothills County, served as the ag society's treasurer and is charged with fraud over $5,000, possession of stolen property over $5,000, theft over $5,000, and using or possessing forged documents. The alleged misappropriation occurred between December 2020 and March 2024.

Thomson appeared without counsel and asked for an adjournment. His next court appearance is set for June 26 at the Alberta Court of Justice in Okotoks. None of the allegations have been tested in court. Charges were filed in 2025.
