Okotoks and surrounding areas are facing another pounding of heavy rain Monday, with Environment Canada issuing a rainfall warning as water levels rise across the region.

Rain is expected to be heavy at times with amounts of 20 to 30 mm. Winds of 40 km/h could gust to 70 km/h. Tonight brings more of the same—heavy rain at times with 20 to 30 mm and continued wind.

Tuesday's forecast calls for periods of rain with 10 to 15 mm amounts, but precipitation is expected to lighten as the system moves eastward. Wednesday should bring a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 18°C.

A high streamflow advisory is in place for the Sheep River. The Town of Okotoks activated stage one of its Emergency Management Plan on Sunday in response to the advisory. Stage one reflects the town's commitment to preparedness; a high streamflow advisory means water levels are rising or expected to rise rapidly, and while no major flooding is forecast, minor flooding in low-lying areas is possible. There is no immediate threat to public safety at this time.
