Two members of the Okotoks Mavericks have earned spots at the Pan Pacific Championships following stellar performances at the 2026 Bell Canadian Swimming Trials in Montreal.
Lucy Wiens continued her strong season with a pair of podium finishes, touching the wall second in the 50m backstroke junior final in an age group and overall club record time of 28.80 seconds, and adding bronze in the 100m backstroke, also in record time at 01:02.08. She was selected for Team Canada at the upcoming Junior Pan Pacific Championships held in Vancouver in August.
Para-swimmer Tianna Asala, competing under the Mavericks umbrella this season, earned a silver medal in the 100m butterfly and a fourth-place finish in the 100m freestyle and 200m IM. Her performances secured her a spot on Team Canada at the Para Pan Pacific Championships next month in California.
Mikayla Paul also made her mark on the national stage with a pair of personal best swims in both the 50m and 200m breaststroke. Two distinguished alumni from the club also shone: Finlay Knox, a two-time Olympian, earned gold medals in the 200m individual medley, 100m and 50m butterfly and punched his ticket to the Pan Pacific Championships.
