80-year-old woman seriously injured in Calgary Transit bus collision

An 80-year-old woman sustained life-altering injuries when struck by a Calgary Transit bus at Beddington Boulevard N.W. and Centre Street N. on Friday, Sept. 4, at approximately 9:40 a.m.
The woman was exiting the bus at the stop when she fell and was struck by the vehicle as it left the stop. She was transported to hospital with serious injuries. The bus driver remained at the scene and was not injured. Calgary police said speed and impairment were not believed to be factors in the collision.

This incident adds to a troubling traffic-safety picture in Calgary. City Council responded with funding for transit safety, which resulted in additional Transit Public Safety Officers.
