A 26-year-old Calgary resident has been charged more than a year after a wrong-way crash on 52 Street NE that killed a woman in her 50s and left two others critically injured.
The crash occurred on July 21, 2025. A pickup truck was travelling southbound in the northbound lanes when it struck a woman who was walking in the area. She died at the scene.
The truck continued in the wrong direction and collided head-on with an oncoming SUV before coming to a stop and bursting into flames. The SUV's driver, a 33-year-old woman, and passenger, a 35-year-old man, were both transported to hospital in critical condition. The pickup truck driver was also taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Following the lengthy investigation by the Calgary Police Service Traffic Section, Rami Hamdan was arrested on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2026. He has been charged with one count of criminal dangerous driving causing death and two counts of criminal dangerous driving causing bodily harm.
Hamdan is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, Aug. 28, 2026.
