A Calgary man has been sentenced to three years in prison for possessing and distributing a large collection of child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

Justice John Bascom sentenced Gabor Akos Uzsoki, 32, on Wednesday, June 24, rejecting both the defence's request for a two-year term and Crown prosecutor Marta Juwziak's push for four years. Uzsoki pleaded guilty to 2024 charges of possession and distribution of child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

Juwziak told the court that while the charges covered only months in 2024, a forensic audit showed Uzsoki had been collecting the material for years. "He possessed thousands of images and videos of CSAEM," she said. "Over half the materials possessed, numerically speaking, were hentai-style. The rest were videos and images of real children, some of who have been identified."

Bascom said that because Uzsoki not only possessed thousands of images and videos but actively traded in them, a harsher sentence than two years was warranted. The court heard seven victim impact statements detailing ongoing trauma — victims worry about redistribution causing nightmares and PTSD.

Uzsoki read a prepared statement expressing remorse. "I would like to apologize to the victims and their families for my terrible actions," he wrote. "It was wrong, immoral and the worst thing I have ever done in my life."
