Alberta's Chief Electoral Officer confirmed Monday that the writ has been issued for a provincial byelection in Calgary-Shaw, with Sept. 14 selected as the official election date.
The riding was vacated by former Minister Rebecca Schulz, who served the area since 2019. The UCP held an open nomination; city councillor Dan McLean lost to candidate Mike Derry.
Voting runs from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sept. 14. Advanced voting begins Sept. 8 and closes Sept. 12. Candidate nominations are open until Aug. 27.
Voters can register using the Voter Link tool by Sept. 2, or by contacting Elections Alberta or the local returning officer by Sept. 5. Registration is also available at assigned voting places on election day. Unofficial results will be posted after voting closes; official results are due Sept. 24 at 10 a.m.
As HighOnCity reported in August, the seat has sat vacant since May. Voters unsure of their riding can use the Where do I vote tool on the Elections Alberta website.
