Voters will choose a new MLA after Rebecca Schulz resigned from the UCP government. Advance voting runs Sept. 8-12.

Calgary-Shaw residents will vote Sept. 14 to fill a seat that has been empty since Rebecca Schulz left the UCP government in May. Chief electoral officer Gordon McClure announced the date Monday.

The riding has more than 39,000 eligible voters. Turnout in the May 2023 provincial election was 63 per cent when Schulz defeated the NDP's David Cloutier by more than 3,000 votes.

Three parties have named or are naming candidates. Businessman Mike Derry won the UCP nomination in June. Kyle Campbell is the NDP's declared candidate. The newly formed Progressive Tory Party, led by former UCP cabinet minister Peter Guthrie, says it expects to name a candidate soon. Candidate nominations close at 2 p.m. on Aug. 27.

Advance voting runs from Sept. 8–12. Polls will be open Sept. 14 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
