Two Calgary NDP legislators announced Saturday they won't seek re-election.
Joe Ceci, MLA for Calgary-Buffalo, and Dr. Luanne Metz, MLA for Calgary-Varsity, will finish their current terms but won't run for another, said NDP Leader Naheed Nenshi.
Two Edmonton MLAs — Marlin Schmidt and Lori Sigurdson — also announced they won't seek re-election.
"I want to thank Joe Ceci, Dr. Luanne Metz, Marlin Schmidt, and Lori Sigurdson for the tangible and immeasurable ways they have made Alberta better," Nenshi said in a statement Saturday.
Ceci was first elected in 2015 and served as finance minister in Rachel Notley's NDP government. Before entering the legislature, he was a Calgary city councillor for 15 years. Metz first won her seat in 2023 and served as shadow minister for health.
Schmidt and Sigurdson, both from Edmonton, were elected in 2015 and held ministerial roles in the NDP government that served until 2019. The four departures come as the party prepares for the next general election, with 38 NDP MLAs currently seated in the legislature.
