The Calgary Stampeders fell to 2-3 Saturday with a 37-30 loss to Montreal in a game decided more by defensive lapses than offensive firepower.

The Alouettes rolled up 411 yards of offence for four touchdowns and three field goals, continuing a season-long pattern of Stampeders defensive struggles. Calgary has allowed 139 points and 1,758 yards in five games—only Toronto has been worse in both categories.

Stampeders QB Vernon Adams Jr. delivered a solid performance with 20-of-36 passing for 272 yards and two touchdowns, tossing scoring passes to Dejon Brissett in the first and third quarters and Clark Barnes in the late stages. He threw no interceptions and rookie kicker Jude McAtamney was perfect on three field-goal attempts.

But Montreal QB Davis Alexander was sharper, completing 22 of 30 passes for 301 yards with no turnovers. Running back Travis Theis added 94 rushing yards on 13 carries for a 7.2-yard average and one touchdown.

GM and head coach Dave Dickenson acknowledged the defensive breakdown: "We just never seemed to find our footing. I do like our fight, but we kind of lacked details and lacked poise." Star defensive tackle Jaylon Hutchings concurred: "They're a good offence, but I feel like, ultimately, we knew what they were going to do. There's certain mistakes that we made that, ultimately, ended up costing us."

The loss marks Calgary's continued struggles in Quebec—the Stampeders haven't won a road game there since 2018. They'll aim to climb back to .500 with their next contest.
