Calgary police are investigating a shooting outside the Red Room Lounge in East Village that left a woman injured early Monday morning.
Police were called to the intersection of Riverfront Avenue S.E. and Third Street S.E. around 4:45 a.m. An altercation between two men outside the lounge resulted in a gunshot that struck a woman in the knee. The woman was taken to hospital by EMS.
Security camera footage reviewed by the property owner showed the woman was unintentionally injured in the crossfire. Despite an estimated 150 people being outside at the time, police say only three have come forward as witnesses.
Staff Sergeant Mike Sushelnitsky of the District 1 General Investigations Unit said the lack of community cooperation is hindering the investigation. "Our efforts rely on strong community support, and we know there are other witnesses who are choosing not to come forward. We will not tolerate acts of senseless violence, especially when innocent bystanders are injured."
