An Edmonton man has been charged with arson nearly three months after a fire destroyed eight businesses in Airdrie's downtown commercial core.
Jaideep Singh, 21, was arrested on September 24 and charged in connection with the June 29 fire at a plaza along Centre Avenue East. The blaze destroyed eight businesses and caused more than $1 million in damage. No injuries were reported.
Airdrie RCMP said a joint investigation with Airdrie Fire Department and the Origin and Cause Group determined the fire was intentionally set. Investigators identified Singh and, with assistance from Edmonton Police Service and Lloydminster RCMP, located and arrested him.
Singh was released on conditions following a Judicial Interim Release Hearing and is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Airdrie on October 22.
