Logan Donald Smith faces 32 charges after arrest at Varsity construction site

Logan Donald Smith, 29, was arrested without incident on Wednesday, September 16, at a construction site in the 4800 block of Voyageur Drive N.W. in Varsity after being observed breaking in and attempting to steal electrical wire.

Smith was wanted on 10 outstanding warrants and had been released from custody in July 2026. He was arrested while operating a motor vehicle in violation of his release order.

During the arrest, officers seized a sawed-off shotgun with a defaced serial number and ammunition. Smith faces 32 total charges: two counts of possession of a controlled substance, two counts of driving while prohibited, one count of break and enter, one count of possession of break-in tools, two counts of theft of motor vehicle, one count of mischief over $5,000, one count of possession of stolen property, one count of unsafe storage of firearm, two counts of carrying a concealed weapon, one count of unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon, one count of possession of a firearm without a licence, one count of possessing a prohibited firearm with accessible ammunition, one count of possessing a firearm with a defaced serial number, two counts of breaching a prohibited firearms order, and 13 counts of breaching a release order.

Smith remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court Thursday, October 1, 2026. The charges have not been tested in court.
