One dead after plane makes emergency landing on Prince George road

A aircraft emergency landing on Foothills Boulevard Thursday resulted in a fatal collision. The Transportation Safety Board is investigating.

One person died after a plane made an emergency landing on a Prince George roadway Thursday afternoon, colliding with two vehicles in the process.

The aircraft came down on Foothills Boulevard around 2:20 p.m. on August 20, approximately 1.5 kilometres north of North Nechako Road. A Bombardier DHC-8 aircraft was operating when the crew mistakenly believed they were out of fuel, according to the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.

One person in one of the vehicles struck during the landing was pronounced dead at the scene. The extent of injuries to occupants of the second vehicle and those aboard the aircraft had not yet been determined as of Thursday evening. BC Emergency Health Services treated 10 people total, with two transported to hospital.

Foothills Boulevard remained closed to traffic in both directions overnight and into Friday as investigators examined the scene. The Transportation Safety Board has assumed responsibility for the investigation. RCMP have not yet released details about the aircraft's other occupants or the identity of the deceased.
