One man died after being stabbed Friday night in Calgary's East Village, in the 500 block of 7th Avenue S.E.
Calgary Police Service responded to reports of an assault with a weapon. Officers found one man on scene with serious injuries and transported him to hospital, where his injuries proved fatal. The investigation is ongoing.
Calgary Police Service has conducted daylong community blitzes in East Village and other areas in recent months, with uniformed officers patrolling streets and resulting in arrests, court summonses and social agency referrals. Police Chief Katie McLellan said this summer that while Calgary remains a safe city by national standards, pressure on the system continues to grow.
