A new neighbourhood called Stonegate just broke ground in northeast Calgary and will bring over 2,500 homes to the city once complete.
The community broke ground on June 17 and spans 460 acres. Developed by Qualico Communities Calgary, it will feature a mix of housing types including apartments, townhouses, duplexes, and detached homes.
Alongside residential construction, the plan includes commercial space, a designated school site, emergency services, connected parks and pathways, and the preservation of an environmentally significant wetland. The community is also expected to improve connectivity to major routes such as Deerfoot Trail, Stoney Trail, and Metis Trail.
"Stonegate represents a unique opportunity for us to shape the future of northeast Calgary in a very meaningful way," said Thilo Kaufmann, vice president of Qualico Communities Calgary. "The land was previously designated for industrial development, but we saw the opportunity to create something lasting, a community that builds on the success of Redstone while bringing new housing opportunities to an already thriving part of the city."
Site work is expected to begin immediately, with a full community launch expected in 2027. Stonegate is one of several new communities in the works — Qualico recently secured land for Ammolite, a 155-acre community in the northwest, while Mattamy Homes announced a 153-acre community near Belvedere.
