A man is in critical condition with life-altering injuries after a daylight shooting in Connaught Park on Wednesday afternoon.

Police were called to the park near 14 Avenue and 11 Street SW around 3:55 p.m. for reports of gunfire. Officers arrived to find a man in his 30s suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to hospital in critical condition.

Police initially took several people into custody for questioning but later determined they were not involved and released them. One suspect is now in custody.

"This was a brazen act of violence in a public space," said CPS Staff Sgt. Cory Der. "These are places where people should feel safe walking their dogs and enjoying their community. We recognize how unsettling this is for residents and are committed to holding those responsible accountable."

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 403-266-1234 or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers.
