Snow blankets Alberta as June starts wet
Environment Canada forecasts up to 20 cm of snow at higher elevations across Alberta as rain continues across the province.
Alberta is welcoming June with snow and rain instead of sunshine. A wet weekend soaked large portions of the province, and as the month begins, higher elevations are already seeing accumulation.
Environment and Climate Change Canada issued numerous special weather statements and rainfall warnings Monday morning, many carried over from late Friday. The agency forecasts total snow amounts of 10 to 20 cm, with the heaviest accumulations expected above 2,000 metres elevation.
Live cameras from Nakiska Ski Area and Banff Sunshine Village showed good powder building up in the mountains. Long-time Albertans know this isn't unusual—western parts of the province, including Banff and Canmore, saw June snow in 2024, while parts of Jasper National Park got walloped in June 2023.
Plenty of rain is still forecast to fall across the province. If you're headed to the mountains this week, check current conditions before you go.
