Calgary bracing for a chilly week as temperatures plunge toward single digits

Calgary's summer is taking an abrupt turn this week. Environment and Climate Change Canada is forecasting temperatures well below normal, with rain moving in and highs dropping into the mid-teens as the city heads into what feels more like early autumn.

The average high for mid-August is 23°C, but Calgary is tracking toward the low end of the seasonal range. Tuesday, August 11 brings a 60 per cent chance of showers with a daytime high of just 19°C and overnight low of 11°C. Wednesday dips further: a 30 per cent chance of showers during the day, periods of rain overnight, and a high of only 15°C, followed by a low of 10°C.

Thursday, August 13 marks the coldest stretch, with daytime temperatures hitting just 12°C and a nighttime low of 9°C—the lowest point of the week. That's a sharp contrast to last year: on August 13, 2025, Calgary recorded a high of 22.6°C at the international airport station.

Conditions start to recover Friday, August 14, with highs reaching 18°C. Saturday, August 15 climbs to 21°C with a mix of sun and clouds, though overnight temperatures drop back to 10°C both nights. Rain is set to return Sunday, August 16, with a 30 per cent chance of showers, a high of 20°C and a low of 11°C. The wet pattern continues into the following week, with Monday, August 17 expecting a 60 per cent chance of showers.

Alberta's summer weather has proven erratic this year. Edmonton recently broke a 73-year rainfall record for the season, part of a broader pattern of unsettled conditions across the province.
