Construction is beginning this month on Southland Drive SW between Oakmoor Way SW and Elbow Drive SW, with preparation work possibly starting the week of September 7 and the first phase launching mid-September.

The city is reconstructing approximately 2 km of westbound Southland Drive SW between 14th Street SW and Palliser Drive SW, and repaving 800 metres between 14th Street SW and Elbow Drive SW. The roadway west of 14th Street is structurally deficient, showing signs of cracking, rutting, and worsening patching at intersections along its full length.

Nighttime milling and paving is scheduled to begin mid-September and complete by the end of September, running 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. seven days a week. Regular construction hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Sunday.

Expect lane closures, lane shifts, reduced speed limits, rough pavement, construction noise, and pedestrian detours. Calgary Transit service along Southland Drive SW may be affected, and temporary driveway closures may be required at Southwood Corner and Southwood Public Library. Traffic pattern changes are planned at five intersections: 14th Street SW, Bradbury Drive SW, and Palliser Drive SW.

The project is part of the City of Calgary's Annual Paving Program. The city has not announced a completion date for the full reconstruction and repaving between Oakmoor Way SW and Elbow Drive SW. Construction schedules are weather-dependent and may change.
