A woman's vehicle was struck by a falling tree in northeast Calgary Tuesday morning as the multi-day storm continues across the region.

A large tree toppled onto a parked vehicle in Whitehorn early Tuesday morning, crushing the hood of the SUV as its owner discovered the damage when she woke up.

The woman found the tree sprawled across her car along a residential street. "I open my window, I look at my car. Oh, my God, what's going on?" she said. "I didn't know what to do. I had to call 911."

Emergency crews responded and confirmed no one was injured. Her children were asleep inside the home at the time and unharmed.

The incident comes as Calgary remains in the grip of a rainfall warning that has dumped significant amounts of rain across Alberta since Monday. Environment and Climate Change Canada recorded 26.4 millimetres at Calgary International Airport Monday alone, with up to 10 millimetres expected Tuesday and possibly continuing into Wednesday morning.

The Bow and Elbow rivers are flowing at just under 400 cubic metres per second—high for early June but nowhere near the 2013 flood levels of 1,500 to 1,600 cubic metres per second. High streamflow advisories remain in place across Alberta, and Calgary Fire Department is warning residents to stay off riverbanks due to cold water and hidden hazards.

The damage left the woman unable to go to work, though her employer was understanding about the circumstances. She said she's lived in the neighbourhood for five years and has never experienced anything like this before.
