A white memorial bicycle was installed Thursday at the intersection of 34 Street and 28A Avenue in Mill Woods to honour Alfred Reisdorf, killed in a vehicle collision on November 23, 2025.

Reisdorf was crossing 34 Street on his bike when he was struck by a Hyundai Tucson operated by a 41-year-old driver. He died in hospital later that day. The driver has been charged with careless driving.

Members of Reisdorf's family and representatives from Bike Edmonton Community Workshop, a grassroots cycling advocacy organization, rode bikes at 11 a.m. from the Mill Woods LRT station to the collision site, carrying the ghost bike to its resting place.

Reisdorf's widow, Zenat Damani, described her husband as a compassionate man who helped neighbours and strangers alike. She says the memorial might save a life. "This will at least make it a little bit safer and deter people from speeding," Damani said. "I live a block away from here and I can hear people speeding."

The practice of ghost bike memorials began in St. Louis in 2004. This is Edmonton's 21st installation since 2007. Bike Edmonton notes that Edmonton saw 32 cyclist deaths in 2005, the deadliest year on record; so far in 2026, the city has seen 11 traffic fatalities.
